The project improves the performance of the railway link

The Bauladu variant is part of the larger project to speed up the San Gavino – Sassari – Olbia line, and involves the municipalities of Solarussa, Bauladu and Paulilatino, covering approximately 8.5 km. The aims of the project are to improve the performance of the railway link by reducing the development of the section between Solarussa and Paulilatino (currently 19.5 km); eliminating sections with a maximum gradient of 25‰ and; eliminating 4 PL. The variant project does not include the restoration of the Bauladu Milis stop. The open-air sections cross areas with archaeological findings that are subject to both direct and indirect constraints.

Project Details

The contract provides for the executive design and execution of works for the construction of the Bauladu single-track Variant from PK 107+558 of the historical line to PK 117+491 of the historical line, including the suppression of the PL at PK 107+885 of the LS and the construction of the related replacement railway, the permanent way material, and the decommissioning of the existing line and the Bauladu – Milis signalling control between LS PK 107+558 and LS PK 117+491.

Main interventions

The executive design and execution of the works of the ‘Bauladu Variant’ is divided into two parts called ‘Part A’ and ‘Part B’.
Part A includes preparatory works such as:
– the northern and southern portals of the natural tunnel;
– the access system for the security areas of the north and south entrances;
– box rail and road manholes.

Sustainability

The executive project under development envisages the reuse of materials from excavations, limiting the input from borrow pits outside the project to promote environmental sustainability.
