A new university residence has been created in Bologna. The intervention realised by Er.Go, the Regional Agency for the Right to Higher Education of Emilia Romagna, has been planned in the area of the former fruit and vegetable market of Bologna in the Via Fioravanti zone, and is the result of an important agreement between the Municipality of Bologna, Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna and ER.GO.
The net area allocated to residential and service functions for non-resident students amounts to 9,450 square metres, with an outdoor area of 2,900 square metres for car and motorbike parking and technological services. The building has 240 beds, divided into various types of accommodation: mini-apartments, flats and hotel-type rooms. There are numerous spaces equipped for collective use such as study rooms, video rooms, music rooms, gymnasium.
The building is also characterised by a green area facing it, which serves the the function of a real climatic park, with important influence on the thermoregulation aspects of the building, and has been designed with the most innovative construction features in terms of energy saving, such as the installation of solar and photovoltaic panels. The use of environmentally sustainable construction methods also characterises the construction of the roof and the building envelope, a “green” wall and a “green” roof that will provide formidable natural insulation combined with a pleasant aesthetic impact.
