The project consists of the construction of the new CIMeC laboratories, specifically building 10, where a former tobacco factory stood in Rovereto (TN).
The new spaces are conceived to house the laboratories of the CIMeC research centre within the ex-factory area with the aim of concentrating the various functions currently dispersed over the territory between Mattarello and Rovereto into a single centre.
Both steel and concrete were used for the entire structure. Insulated sandwich panels, closed by steel frames were installed. For the roof of the basement, there are two types of floors: the first serves as a green roof for the outdoor courtyard and is made of a solid slab; the second floor, which is present inside the outbuilding, is a floor made of a mixed steel-concrete system. A ramp provides access to the basement for service vehicles and ambulances for the access of bedridden or otherwise non-ambulatory patients. In the basement, there are two internal courtyards to allow lighting in the basement used as a garden.
The plant engineering part is undoubtedly crucial, as these are research laboratories. Inside, a MEG, a special machine for reading and studying neurons, will be placed. This machinery is particularly sensitive to external vibrations, so a foundation disconnected from the general building foundation was created.
In the basement, areas are being compartmentalised in order to hand over the use of the machinery to the ASL in the near future.
The true heart of the CIMeC consists of the laboratories planned for the basement, connected with the above-ground volume by two stairway blocks equipped with a lift, and communicating with the other CIMeC spaces located in the historic buildings (buildings 14 and 11), through two underground pedestrian connections that transform the new building into a true junction for the entire CIMeC.

In order not to waste water but to recycle it, there is a cistern for collecting rainwater. The external white water network is piped into this tank. The water is then reused for the fire-fighting system and garden irrigation.
