Securing the road layout S.S. 658

The intervention is located in the Basilicata region and falls within the municipalities of Filiano, Avigliano and Pietragalla, in the province of Potenza (PZ).
The planned works on the S.S. 658 ‘Potenza – Melfi’ concerns safety works on the road layout in occasional sections between km 0+000 and km 48+131. 1st Section B.
Sections 1 and 2 follow specific directions to extend manholes and optimize interventions. In section 3, the alignment allows for the repair of the existing wall, adapting an underpass only on the Potenza side.
In addition, the entrance ramp at the St. George junction has an incidence of 70 degrees to the main axis.

Project Details

In order to preserve one of the two existing roadside verges as much as possible, the alignment of the verge not affected by the presence of the new climbing lane is maintained, and, when conditions permit, also preserving the elements of furniture on the edges of the road platform. This design choice has resulted in a substantial change in the sequence of the plano-altimetric elements that make up the three sections under consideration.

Section 1 maintains the alignment of the verge in the direction of Potenza in order to extend the TO01 manhole at km 16+521 only in the direction of Melfi.
Section 2 preserves the alignment of the verge in the direction of Melfi by optimising work on manholes TO03 at pk 18+262, TO04 at pk 18+895 and the underpass ST02 at pk 19+321.68.
In addition, the entrance ramp at the St. George junction has an incidence of 70 degrees to the main axis.

Section 3, similarly to its predecessor, is aligned on the Melfi-direction verge, which allows the existing wall to be restored for almost the entire design extension of the intervention. The underpass ST03 at pk 27+498.73 is thus adjusted to the gauge of the new main road on the Potenza direction side only.
