The project involves the demolition and reconstruction of the bridges over the Rio San Girolamo (new span 132 m) and the Rio Masone Ollastu (new span 41 m), at km 12+650 and 13+250, respectively, of the Strada Statale 195 ‘Sulcitana’ in the municipality of Capoterra (CA), one of the most important roads in Southern Sardinia, and the plano-altimetrical connection of the intermediate road section, consisting of a single two-lane carriageway.
These works are part of the overall hydraulic arrangement of the Rio S. Girolamo and Rio Masone Ollastu, affected by the flood event of October 2008, carried out by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia in order to make them safe by channelling them from upstream to the mouth. The reconstruction of the bridges on the SS195, which span the two rivers near the mouth, is necessary to adapt them to the updated constraints of span and freeboard imposed by the new hydraulic compatibility study drawn up by the Region of Sardinia for the overall work of fixing and securing the area affected by the two river courses.
In addition to the two new bridges, two hydraulic box culverts, seven reinforced concrete walls, an open channel with a length of 230 metres and a span of 7 metres, approximately 1,500 metres of new type C roadway with raising of the level by approximately 4 metres and the inclusion of three new roundabouts, and approximately 1,000 metres of new roadway for local traffic will be built.
